See your RSA variations
A responsive search ad's live preview builds combinations of your headlines and descriptions, the way Google mixes them. You can show one, three or five combinations at once, shuffle to new ones, and download them as pictures.
Show one, three, or five ads
At the top of the live preview, pick One Ad, Three Ads, or Five Ads. Each card is a different combination of your headlines and descriptions, with your extensions under it.
The preview does not list every combination at once. It shows up to five at a time, and Shuffle moves through the rest. The preview needs at least one headline with text. Descriptions are optional, so an ad with headlines only still shows.
Shuffle the variations to see more ad combos
Click Shuffle, the orange button next to the Desktop view and Mobile view icons. The preview moves to the next set of combinations, as many as you are showing. Lines that have shown less often are more likely to come up next, so shuffling works through all the headlines and descriptions you wrote. A pinned headline or description stays in the position you pinned it to. Sitelinks and callouts rotate too.
In Mobile view, when the preview has more than one keyword, each shuffle also moves the phone's search bar to the next keyword.
Most other previews have a Shuffle button as well. It swaps in other copy or media for that format.
Is there a Shuffle limit on the Free plan?
No. Signed in, you can shuffle as many times as you like on every plan, Free tier included, and so can a client on your client link. Only the sample editor at /demo stops after 3 shuffles in a preview and opens a window titled Ready for unlimited variations?. That cap belongs to the demo, not to your account.
Why does my ad show only two headlines?
Preview settings is set to Standard (2H). Open Preview settings, the sliders icon above the live preview. Under Headlines shown in preview, pick Standard (2H) for two headlines or Expanded (3H) for three, then click Apply. Standard is how most Google ads appear. A headline pinned to position 3 does not show in the two-headline layout.
This choice is saved in your browser, not on the preview, so each teammate keeps their own. A client link you copy while Standard (2H) is on opens with two headlines. On Performance Max, the same choice is on the Search tab.
Download the variations
Click Download variations as ZIP, the download icon at the end of the bar. You get a ZIP with one PNG picture per combination, in the desktop search layout, for the number of ads you picked: one, three, or five. The pictures use your two- or three-headline choice and the extensions that show on the preview for this ad group. An extension you hid in Preview settings is left out. If the ad has no business name, the pictures say Your Business. Download variations as ZIP works on the same plans as export, Free tier included.
Copy as image, beside it, copies the preview on screen as a picture you can paste. A message says Copied as image when it is on your clipboard. Both buttons are greyed out until the ad has at least one headline with text.
What your client sees on a client link
Your client can pick One Ad, Three Ads, or Five Ads, click Shuffle, and use Copy as image. Your client cannot change Preview settings.
Your client sees Download variations as ZIP only when Allow export is on for the client link. Allow export is under Sharing options when you share, and it is a Studio feature.
What it does not do
The preview shows combinations of what you wrote. It does not predict which combination Google will serve or how often, and it does not show performance.
