Export or download a preview

How-to guidesLast verified:

Export is on every plan, Free tier included. In the editor, click Export at the top right, then Google Ads Editor CSV. The export dialog opens. Pick a format, then click its export button. In the classic layout, Export is an icon with the tooltip Export to Google Ads Editor.

What the export dialog offers

The dialog is titled Export with the preview's name, and says Pick a format, then export. It opens with Google Ads Editor (CSV) already selected. After your first export it offers your last settings instead, such as Last time: CSV · Google Ads Editor, with a prompt to use it again. Click that to pick the same options.

  • Google Ads Editor (CSV). Tick Include keywords with match types and Include ad assets (extensions) as needed, then click Export CSV. You get a ZIP of Google Ads Editor CSVs with pins kept, ready to bulk import.
  • Download PDF, on a responsive search ad only. Choose a PDF style, Client review or Internal detail, then click Export PDF. See below.
  • PPC Ad Editor Template (Excel), on a responsive search ad only. One workbook with campaigns, ad groups, ads, keywords, and extensions, which imports back into PPC Ad Editor. Tick Include keywords in a separate sheet if you want them. Click Export Excel.
  • Apple Template (Excel), an Apple Search Ads template. It appears only when it is turned on for your workspace.

If the preview has no campaign yet, the dialog says No campaigns found for this preview yet. Create a campaign before exporting.

When the file is on its way, the footer says Export successful! Download starting…. If an export fails, the dialog says Failed to export. Please try again.

Why does Download PDF say Select at least one section?

Every chip under Include in the PDF is off. The dialog says "Select at least one section to include in the PDF." Click at least one chip, such as Ads, then click Export PDF again.

How long does a PDF or Excel download stay available?

A PDF or PPC Ad Editor Template file builds in the background and downloads on its own when it is ready. Click Download Export to save it again. The line Download expires, with a date and time, says when that download link stops working. After that, export again from the same dialog.

Export a PDF for a client

Pick Download PDF. Under PDF style, pick one:

  • Client review is clean and branded, for the client to sign off.
  • Internal detail shows ad groups, keywords, and labels, for a full check by your team.

Under Include in the PDF, click the chips to add or remove Ads, Keywords, Sitelinks, Callouts, Snippets, Call ext., and Ad groups. Pick at least one. Open Header & footer to add an optional line at the top or bottom of each page. Click Export PDF. A progress view shows while the PDF builds, and the PDF downloads as a file when it is ready. Your editor tab stays open.

Are images and logos in the export

Yes. The Google Ads Editor ZIP holds the CSVs plus the images and logos on the ads. On Performance Max, the images are sorted into landscape, square, and portrait folders, to match the CSV. Images smaller than Google's Performance Max minimums are enlarged in the ZIP so the import accepts them: 600 by 314 for landscape, 300 by 300 for square, and 480 by 600 for portrait. Logos are not enlarged.

Which previews can export

Export shows on responsive search, responsive display, and Performance Max previews. A ChatGPT ad preview exports too. Its Export menu reads OpenAI Ads Manager workbook, and the dialog offers only that format. Click Export workbook to get an Excel (.xlsx) file that matches the bulk-upload template. Demand Gen, Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube, Programmatic, X, Reddit, and Microsoft Ads previews have no Export button, and they do not download as ads you import on those platforms.

On responsive display and Performance Max, the dialog offers Google Ads Editor (CSV) only. Download PDF and PPC Ad Editor Template (Excel) are for responsive search ads.

PPC Ad Editor does not push ads to Google Ads. The download is a file. Posting it is a step you take in Google Ads Editor.

Download pictures of the ad

These save pictures, not ads you can import. They work on the same plans as export, Free tier included.

  • Responsive search ad. Download variations as ZIP, the download icon at the end of the bar above the live preview, saves one PNG per combination. See your RSA variations.
  • Meta, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Download PNG, the download icon above the live preview, saves the view on screen as a PNG, at double size, for the platform and device you picked.
  • Copy as image, beside them, copies the view on screen so you can paste it into a slide.

What your client can download

A client on a share link cannot use Export unless the link allows export. The Export icon is greyed out with the tooltip Export disabled by owner. On a responsive search ad, Download variations as ZIP does not show either. Allow export on a share link is a Studio feature.

To let your client download, open Share preview and check Allow export, "Clients can download this preview". On the Free tier, Allow export carries a Studio tag and clicking it opens the Studio offer instead. Your own Export in the editor stays on, on every plan.
