Share a preview with your client

How-to guidesLast verified:

Share a preview with a link your client opens in a browser. They do not need an account, and the link always shows the current version of the ad.

How do I share a preview?

  1. Open the preview. Click Copy client link on the live preview frame. The link is copied, ready to paste into an email or a chat.
  2. Or click Share with client at the top right. In the classic layout the button reads Share with your client.
  3. Send the link to your client.

Why does Share with client need two clicks?

When the Copy client link frame is entirely above or below the edge of your screen, the first click on Share with client scrolls to it and highlights it, and a second click opens Share preview. When any part of the frame is on screen, even partly cut off, the first click opens Share preview. That includes a responsive search ad, Responsive Display and Performance Max.

What is in the Share preview dialog?

  • Permission level: Viewer, Commentor, Approval or Editor. See Share link permissions for what each one allows. On the Free tier, Commentor reads "Can view and add comments · up to 3 per preview on Free".
  • Share link: the address, with Copy. Under it, a line says what anyone with the link can do, such as "Anyone with this link can view only."
• Sharing options: Allow export, which lets your client download the preview, Allow copying, and Notify when viewed. Allow copying shows only on a single preview's link. A group link and a Programmatic preview do not have it.
  • Regenerate link, which makes a new address. The old link stops working.

Changes auto-save. The footer reads Changes auto-save, then Saving… and Saved while it saves. If a save fails, it says Failed to save, with Retry. Click Done to close. Share settings, under More options at the top right, opens the same dialog.

Approval, Editor and Allow export are Studio features. Viewer and Commentor work on the Free tier. Without Studio, the dialog shows a Free plan tag at the top. Approval, Editor and Allow export carry a Studio tag until you upgrade. Clicking one of them opens the Studio offer and a side-by-side comparison of the two plans. The setting itself does not change.

Why does Share preview say Samples can't be shared?

The preview is a sample ad, not one you built. The dialog says "Samples can't be shared. Build your own ad to share it." Click Make this a real ad to turn it into your own preview, then share that one.

Yes. On Display, Performance Max and YouTube previews, clicking an ad image opens it full size. Press Esc, click outside the image, or click Close to go back. When the ad has several images, Previous ad and Next ad arrows step through them, and the arrows stop at the first and last one instead of jumping back to the start. The small info mark on the preview explains itself when you hover or tap it. Clicking the logo does not zoom.

Yes. In Share preview, check Notify when viewed. The person who created the preview gets an email the first time someone opens the link. Check Include repeat views to hear about later visits from the same person too.

These emails go to every address you ticked under Receive notifications on your Profile, not only your login email. Receipts stay on your default address. See Send view and comment emails to the right address.

To send these emails to another address as well, type it in the Also notify box under Notify when viewed. That address gets comment emails for the preview too, in addition to the ones ticked on your Profile.

Can my client copy the preview into their own workspace?

Yes, when you allow it. In Share preview, check Allow copying, "Signed-in viewers can copy this preview into their own workspace". It is off until you turn it on. Under it, Include comments is on by default, and the copy arrives with your comments, still open. Untick it to leave them out. A line under it says each copy is emailed to the addresses ticked on your Profile. The line under the link then says viewers can view and copy it, or view, comment and copy it.

Your client sees Make it yours on the shared page, with the note "Copy this preview into your own workspace and edit it. No setup needed." They sign in, or create an account, and pick a workspace if they have more than one. The preview is copied there and opens in the editor without the setup wizard. The copy is theirs. Your original does not change.

  • A Free workspace holds 3 previews. When it is full, they can Upgrade to Studio or Replace a preview with the copy.
  • A Studio-only format shows This format is part of Studio when they copy into a Free workspace.
  • If you open your own link and click Make it yours, it opens your preview instead of copying it.
  • One person can make 10 copies an hour. After that the page says Too many copies in a short time.
  • If you turn Allow copying off, a viewer who clicks Make it yours is told copying is turned off for this link.
  • If a copy fails, nothing is added to their workspace and the link still works.

How do I share a group of previews?

In the dashboard's preview list, a group row has Copy group link and Share settings. Share settings opens Share group. A group link can be Viewer, Commentor or Editor. Approval, a Studio feature, works only on a single preview's link, so a group has no Approval option and no Regenerate link. Inside a group, the Send for approval button opens the same Share group dialog.

Yes. Your client opens the public preview link with no account and no sign-in, and can comment when the link is set to Commentor. See Comments.

On the Free tier, one preview at a time can have a client link, and that link stays live. Moving that preview to Trash frees the slot and pauses its link. A link for a second preview is a Studio feature. On Studio, every preview can have its own link.

When you try to share a second preview on the Free tier, you see Ready for your next client?, with "Free covers one client link, and yours stays live. Studio lets you send a live link for every client you take on." It lists the preview that already holds your link. Opening Share preview does not show this. Clicking Copy, or Copy client link, on a second preview does.

Yes. A share link from a Free workspace shows the PPC Ad Editor logo at the top of the shared page. Share preview says "This link carries a small PPC Ad Editor watermark", with Remove watermark, which opens Studio checkout. On a paid Studio plan the PPC Ad Editor logo does not show on your client's page. During a trial it still shows. This is not a white-label link, and you cannot put your own logo or domain on the link.

A page that says This link no longer works. It was turned off or replaced with a new one. Ask the person who sent it for a fresh link. This happens after you regenerate the link or delete the preview. Send them the current link from Copy client link.

Share preview can show a System row marked view only, under the share link. Only you have that address. It lets you see what a client sees. Click Delete to remove it.

No. There is no password-protected share link, and there is no white-label share link.
