Asset library
The asset library holds the sitelinks, callouts, structured snippets, calls, images, logos, and business names your ads use. In the editor, click Assets at the top right, beside the find and replace magnifier. On a narrow screen it is an icon with the tooltip Asset library · images, logos and extensions. In the classic layout it reads Asset Library. To open the library for the whole workspace, click Quick search in the left menu or press Ctrl K, type asset, and choose Asset library.
The library has a tab for each kind: Sitelinks, Callouts, Structured Snippets, Call, Images, Logos, and Business Names.
Add an asset
Open the tab and click its button: New Sitelink, Add Callout, Add Snippet, Add Call Extension, or Add Business Name. On the Images tab the button is Upload image, or Add More Images in the older grid view. On the Logos tab it is Add More Logos.
To add a sitelink, fill in Sitelink, the first description, and the URL, then click Save. The second description is optional. The URL box already starts with https://, so type the rest of the address. If it looks like you left out www, the form says Did you forget "www"? Click here to insert. Turn off Enabled to keep a sitelink in the library without showing it on your ads.
If a field is wrong, the form shows the error on that field, such as Max 25 characters (CJK count as 2). The limits are:
- Sitelink text 25 characters, each description line 35.
- Callout text 25.
- Business name 25.
- A structured snippet needs a Header and 3 to 10 values.
- A call extension needs a Country/Region and a phone number. A number that is too short for the country shows Invalid phone number format for selected country.
Full-width letters use up two of the limit each.
How do I upload images or a logo, and what files work?
Images and logos can be JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP, up to 20 MB each.
- On the Images tab, click Upload image. Upload Images opens.
- If you opened the library for the whole workspace, choose a Destination dashboard first. Without one, it says Choose one destination dashboard before uploading images.
- Drop images on the box or click Choose Files. You can pick several at once, and add an optional description to each.
- Click Upload, which shows the count, such as Upload 3 Images. The box recommends 1200 × 628 pixels, the 1.91:1 ratio.
A file that is too big shows, for example, "photo.png" is too large (24.0 MB). Maximum file size is 20 MB. A file of another type is refused with Use a JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP image. Logos upload one at a time from Upload Logo on the Logos tab.
Some ad formats are stricter when you pick or upload from the ad. X ads and Reddit ads take JPEG or PNG, and a Reddit image can be up to 3 MB. A ChatGPT ad needs a square JPEG or PNG between 640 and 1200 pixels, and the picker offers a 1:1 crop when an image is not square.
Can I import sitelinks from a file?
Yes. You can import sitelinks, callouts, and structured snippets in bulk from a CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file, such as a Google Ads Editor CSV export.
- Open the Asset Library and go to the Sitelinks, Callouts, or Structured Snippets tab.
- Click Import from File. Import assets from file opens.
- Drop your CSV or Excel file, or click to pick it, and click Continue. The file can be up to 10 MB.
- Ready to import shows how many sitelinks, callouts, and structured snippets were found. Click Import, which shows the count, such as Import 12 assets.
- Import complete shows what landed. Click Done, or Open Asset Library.
The imported assets land in your library without a campaign or ad group. Associate them where they should show, as below. Duplicates are skipped. If nothing is found, it says No sitelinks, callouts, or structured snippets found in the file. Make sure your file uses the correct column headers. Call extensions, business names, and images are not imported this way.
Write sitelinks, callouts, and snippets with AI
On the Sitelinks, Callouts, and Structured Snippets tabs, Suggest Copy sits next to the add button. Click it and AI writes new ones and adds them straight to the list.
- Open the library from the editor's Assets button. When the ad has a Final URL, the site's address shows beside Suggest Copy, and the suggestions are written from that site.
- A progress window shows each step, such as Researching website..., Generating sitelinks..., Creating sitelinks..., and Populating library.... It ends with All assets added to library.
- The new assets are not attached to a campaign or an ad group yet. When you opened the library from a preview, they are filed under that preview's dashboard. Associate them, as below, to show them on the ad.
- Each click uses one AI credit. See Draft copy with AI for how credits work.
- The language menu beside the button offers Auto-detect, English, or Danish.
Suggest Copy only shows when AI copy is on for you and your workspace. AI drafting is on the Free tier and on Studio.
Where images go on each format
On a responsive search ad, add images, logos, sitelinks, callouts, and structured snippets in the asset library. An image added there shows on the search preview as an image extension.
On a responsive display ad, a Performance Max ad, a Demand Gen single-image ad, a Meta image ad, or a LinkedIn image ad, images are a section on the ad. The button there is Add Image. A picker opens on your library, where you can also upload. Pick images, then click Done. On a YouTube ad, the form uses Add video and Add logo.
Find an image in the Images tab
The Images tab is a table with the columns Image, Size, Used in, Labels, and Uploaded by.
- Type in Search images to find one.
- Filter by Dashboard, Preview, Label, Uploader, or Ratio.
- Sort by Recently updated, Oldest updated, Recently uploaded, Name, or Usage.
- Each image shows its number of variants, the cropped versions made from it. Click Show family to see them.
Cropped versions stay with the dashboard the original image belongs to. A crop made for one client's image does not show up in another client's dashboard or its previews.
The ⋯ menu on a row has Crop image, Manage labels, Manage associations, and Delete image.
Make landscape, square, and portrait versions of one image
- On the Images tab, open the ⋯ menu on the image and click Crop image.
- Select Image Ratios opens. Click a ratio on the left: 16:9 Landscape, 1:1 Square, 4:5 Portrait, or 1.91:1 Google Display.
- Drag and resize the crop box, then click Add with that ratio, such as Add 1:1.
- Add as many ratios as you need. Click Save, which shows how many, such as Save (2). Each crop becomes its own image in the library, ready to pick on any ad.
The preview counts both 16:9 and 1.91:1 as landscape.
Label assets by client or theme
Asset labels are coloured tags that help you filter a big library.
- To label one asset, click the tag icon on it, titled Labels, then tick a label or click Create new label.
- To label several, tick them, click Label, and pick a label. The box reads Assign to 3 assets, for example.
- Above the list, Labels: shows your labels. Click one to see only those assets, and All to clear the filter. Click Manage to create or edit labels in Manage Labels.
What associating an asset means
Associating links an asset to where it shows: the whole account, a campaign, or an ad group in the preview. The live preview shows the assets associated with the campaign or ad group on screen.
- In the editor, click Assets at the top right. The library opens for this preview.
- Click an asset. The panel on the right becomes Group Association.
- Check the account, a campaign, or an ad group. Changes save on their own after a second.
Each level is separate, and checking one does not check the levels under it. An account-level asset applies everywhere unless a campaign or an ad group has its own. A campaign-level one overrides the account, and an ad group-level one overrides both. Assets with a blue badge are already associated.
The library you open from Quick search is for the whole workspace, and it cannot associate. Open the library from a preview to associate assets.
Use an asset from another client's dashboard
Assets belong to your whole account, so you can reuse a sitelink, callout, or image you made for another client.
- Open the library from the preview that needs the asset. On the Sitelinks, Callouts, Structured Snippets, Call, Logos, and Business Names tabs, Filter by dashboard: starts on this preview's dashboard.
- Click Add and pick the other dashboard, or click Clear All (Show All Dashboards) to see every dashboard's assets. Click a dashboard's chip to take it out of the filter.
- Click the asset and associate it with this preview's account, campaign, or ad group, as above.
A dashboard in the filter shows the assets made in it, plus the assets already associated with its campaigns and ad groups. The Images tab has its own Dashboard filter. When you pick images or a logo on an ad, the picker's Filter by Dashboard row works the same way.
Wrong sitelinks showing? Why another client's extensions do not show in my preview
The editor's live preview only uses account-level extensions and business names from this preview's dashboard. Those are the ones made in this dashboard, plus any already associated with this dashboard's campaigns or ad groups. If you keep two clients in one workspace, a sitelink or callout made in one client's dashboard does not show up in the other client's preview.
To use one anyway, open the library from this preview, click Add under Filter by dashboard: and pick the other dashboard, then associate the asset with this preview's campaign or ad group, as above.
Why the extensions change between ad cards
Each ad card in a search preview shows one structured snippet, one image, and a share of your sitelinks and callouts. The rest rotate between cards, so every card shows a different set. This asset rotation happens on its own. To keep one in place, open the library from the preview, click the pin on the asset, titled Pin position, and pick a position. A sitelink or callout can be pinned to positions 1 to 4. A structured snippet, call extension, image, or logo has one position. Click the same position again to unpin it.
Who can change the asset library? Why does a teammate see View only? Is it on the Free plan?
The asset library, labels, crops, and Suggest Copy are on the Free tier and on Studio. Owners, admins, and editors can add, change, and delete assets. If you see View only, your role can comment but not change assets. Ask an owner or admin for editor access.
