Edit a ChatGPT, X, or Reddit ad: profile image and creative image
ChatGPT, X, and Reddit ads each have their own editor. This page covers what people ask about most. That is how long the text can be, the profile image on the ad, the square image on a ChatGPT ad, exporting a ChatGPT ad as active, and the context hints on a ChatGPT ad.
How many characters can a ChatGPT ad title and description have?
A ChatGPT ad has one Title of up to 24 characters and one Description of up to 48 characters. The counter beside each label shows how many you have used, and the box stops taking letters at the limit. Under the fields, the editor notes that OpenAI recommends 16 to 24 characters for a title and 32 to 48 for the description, and that the bulk template allows up to 24 and 48. These limits keep the ad ready to export as an OpenAI Ads Manager workbook.
The Ad name above the fields is only for you and your client. It needs 3 to 1000 characters, or the editor says Ad name must be between 3 and 1000 characters.
How long can an X post or a Reddit headline be?
An X ad has one Post of up to 280 characters. A Reddit ad has one Headline of up to 300 characters.
Why did the profile picture on my X, Reddit, or ChatGPT ad change my dashboard logo, and how do I change it?
In the ad's editor, find Profile logo on a ChatGPT ad. Click Choose, or Replace when one is already set, on an X or Reddit ad. On a ChatGPT ad the button reads Choose logo, or Replace when one is set. Then pick or upload an image.
Setting the profile picture on one of these ads used to change the dashboard logo for everything. It no longer does. The image belongs to that one ad. It does not change the logo at the top of your dashboard, and it does not change any other ad. Under the image, the line reads This ad only. If you have not set one, the line reads Dashboard logo, and the ad uses your brand logo.
To go back to the brand logo, click Use dashboard logo. The ad then shows your dashboard logo again. To change the dashboard logo itself, see Brand logo.
What size does a ChatGPT ad image need?
The Square creative image must be square, between 640×640 and 1200×1200 pixels, as a JPEG or PNG. Click Choose image, or Replace image, to open your asset library. Images that do not fit are hidden from the choices.
How do I export a ChatGPT ad as active instead of paused?
A ChatGPT ad exports as paused unless you choose otherwise. In the ChatGPT ad's editor, under Preview updates live in the preview pane., check Export this ad as active. The box stays checked, and the next export marks that ad active. Uncheck it to export the ad as paused again. You need edit access to change it.
I uploaded an image and it did not appear. Why?
Uploads go into your asset library first. What happens next depends on the picture:
- A square image a little over 1200 pixels is shrunk to fit as you upload it. It is selected right away.
- An image that is not square is saved to your library, and a notice says it is not square and what size the ad needs. Click Crop to 1:1 in the notice to make a square version.
- A square image that is too small, or a file type the ad cannot use, is saved to your library with a notice that says what to use instead.
- A file that cannot be read as a picture is turned away with We couldn't read this image. Save it again as a JPEG or PNG and try again.
You can also open the picker and use the Need a square version? strip to create a 1:1 crop from an image you already have. Crops are made at or below the largest size the ad allows, and they are never enlarged. The square version is then selected for the ad.
What are context hints on a ChatGPT ad?
A ChatGPT ad has no keywords. Instead, the tab next to Ads is called Context hints. Context hints describe the conversations where the ad is relevant.
- Open the ChatGPT ad in the editor and click Context hints.
- Type one hint per line, such as comparing team collaboration tools.
- Click Save context hints. Context hints saved confirms it.
Each ad group has its own hints, up to 250 lines of up to 500 characters each. If a line breaks a limit, a message says what to fix and nothing is saved. On the Preview tab, the hints are listed under Context hints, or the section says No context hints added yet. You and your client can comment on them there.
