Microsoft Ads (Bing) search previews

How-to guidesLast verified:

Bing ads? Yes. You can preview a Microsoft Ads (Bing) responsive search ad in the editor. The preview shows your ad the way it looks in Bing search results, on desktop and on mobile. It is a preview for review and sharing. Nothing is sent to Microsoft Advertising.

How do I start a Microsoft Ads preview?

  1. On a dashboard, click New Preview.
  2. Under Search & AI Answers, pick Microsoft Ads. Its card says Reach high-intent search audiences across Microsoft's search network.
  3. Click Continue with Microsoft Ads. The format is always Responsive Search Ad, so there is no format step.
  4. Pick Start from scratch or Draft with AI, then create the preview.

Importing from Google Ads or from a file is not offered for Microsoft Ads. To reuse copy from a Google search ad, paste it into the headlines and descriptions.

Is Microsoft Ads on the Free plan?

Yes. The current Free plan includes every format, Microsoft Ads among them. Studio has it too. On an older Free plan, the card opens a window that says Microsoft Ads is available with Studio. Free includes RSA, RDA, Meta Single, and YouTube.

What can I edit in a Microsoft search ad?

  • Headlines. Add 3 to 15, each up to 30 characters. The editor says Add 3–15 headlines. Microsoft will mix and match them.
  • Descriptions. Add 2 to 4, each up to 90 characters.
  • Final URL, Display Path 1, and Display Path 2. The Final URL starts empty, so type your landing page.
  • A business name and a logo.
  • Keywords.
  • Extensions from your asset library: sitelinks, callouts, structured snippets, a call extension, and an image.

When you reach the limit, the field says Microsoft Advertising allows 30 characters for a headline. Microsoft counts some characters, such as Chinese, Japanese, and emoji, as two. The editor counts them the same way, so a headline in one of those scripts fits fewer characters.

Microsoft allows up to 15 characters for each display path. The editor does not count display path characters, so check the length yourself.

How do I pin a headline in a Microsoft ad?

Click the pin beside a headline or description, titled Pin position. Choose Only in Position 1, 2, or 3 for a headline, or Only in Position 1 or 2 for a description. Any Unpinned Position removes the pin.

The editor reminds you that pinning limits which headlines and descriptions Microsoft can assemble. A pinned asset is not guaranteed to show, and every headline position still needs an eligible asset.

Why does the preview show different headlines each time?

A responsive search ad mixes your headlines and descriptions, so each ad card shows a different combination.

  • Click Shuffle above the preview to see new combinations.
  • Switch between One Ad and Five Ads to see one card or five.
  • Use Desktop view and Mobile view to see both layouts.

Each card shows up to 8 sitelinks, 4 callouts, 1 structured snippet, 1 call extension, and 1 image, and the set rotates between cards. Under the preview it says Microsoft may combine responsive assets differently depending on the search and placement, so the real ad can differ. Your client does not see that note on the share link.

Can I export a Microsoft Ads (Bing) preview to a CSV?

No file export. A Microsoft search preview has no Export button and no bulk upload file, and nothing is sent to Microsoft Advertising. To show it to a client, use the share link. To paste it into a deck or an email, click Copy as image above the preview. Download variations as ZIP makes images in the Google search layout, so use Copy as image when you need a Bing-style picture.
