Ad Recap not working or broken? Fix common problems

TroubleshootingLast verified:

Ad Recap not working, or something looks broken? Find what you see below.

Start here when Ad Recap is not working as expected, whether on the Dashboard, the Accounts screen or in the recap email.

No changes showing on the Dashboard

  • If the Dashboard says No changes detected yet, click Sync now. If it is still empty, pick Last 30 days and click Sync now again.
  • If it says No changes match your filters, click Clear Filters. Clearing also sets the date range back to Last 7 days, so pick a longer range again if you need it.
  • If you only see budget and status changes, turn off Only budget and status changes in Settings.
  • On the Accounts screen, check that the account shows Connected.
  • Test and sandbox Google Ads accounts have no change history. Their row says Change history is not available for this account.

Changes older than four weeks are missing

Ad Recap can load changes from up to 28 days back, because Google Ads only shares the last 30 days of change history. On the Ad Recap Dashboard, Last 30 days covers the most recent 28 days, and older changes cannot be loaded. Disconnecting an account also deletes the changes Ad Recap saved for it.

It says The free plan includes 1 ad account

Your workspace is on the Ad Recap free plan, which watches 1 ad account. Upgrade to watch more says a second account was not added. Remove the others or upgrade to keep using them means you watch more than one, usually because a trial ended. Remove accounts on the Accounts screen until one is left, or upgrade. See Is Ad Recap free? The Ad Recap free plan.

Last 14 days and Last 30 days are locked

The free plan shows the last 7 days of history. Upgrade for longer history.

A Google Ads account is disconnected: where is Reconnect?

A banner at the top of the Ad Recap Accounts screen names the account and its Google login, says it is disconnected from Google Ads, and says when it last synced. This means the Google sign-in behind it stopped working. Click Reconnect on that banner and sign in to Google again with the same login. When you finish, you come back to the Accounts screen.

In the account picker, the same account shows its Google login, when it last synced and a Reconnect button, and it cannot be ticked. Click Reconnect there to start the same sign-in.

An account shows Error or Expired

On the Ad Recap Accounts screen, click Reconnect on the row. Ad Recap opens the Google or Microsoft sign-in for that account. Sign in with the same login as before, and you come back to the Accounts screen with every account under that login Connected again. Then click Sync now in the row's Account options menu to fetch its changes. While an account shows Error or Expired, the automatic sync and the recap email leave it out.

It says Connection needs re-authorization

If a row on the Ad Recap Accounts screen says Connection needs re-authorization. Please disconnect and reconnect your Google Ads account., use Reconnect on that row, not Disconnect. Disconnecting deletes this account's saved change history, and adding it again only loads the last 28 days.

  1. Click Reconnect on the row.
  2. Sign in to Google with the same login as before, and allow the access Google asks for.
  3. Back on the Accounts screen, the account is Connected again with its history kept. Click Sync now in the row's Account options menu to fetch its changes.

If Sync now says Connection needs re-authorization. Please disconnect and reconnect., the same steps apply. Use Reconnect, not Disconnect.

Do I need to connect Google Ads in Budget Pacer first?

No. You connect Google Ads and Microsoft Ads inside Ad Recap, on the Accounts screen. Click the Google Ads or Microsoft Ads tile, sign in, and the account picker opens. Logins your workspace already saved in Budget Pacer show up there too. See Connect Google Ads or Microsoft Ads.

The account picker has no accounts for a platform

If the picker says No Google Ads accounts on your saved logins yet, or the same for Microsoft Ads, your workspace has no login saved for that platform. Click Sign in to Google Ads or Sign in to Microsoft Ads in the picker, or click the platform's tile on the Accounts screen. You sign in and come straight back to the picker. You do not need to go to Budget Pacer first.

If the picker says We couldn't load your accounts, click Try again. If it says Google connection is temporarily unavailable on our side. We've been alerted. Please try again shortly., the problem is on our side and your Google login is fine. Do not reconnect. Try again in a few minutes. A notice that starts We couldn't load the accounts for names the one login that failed. Accounts from your other logins still show.

A Google Ads account says temporarily unavailable

If an account's sync error says Google connection is temporarily unavailable on our side. We've been alerted. Please try again shortly., Google refused the request for a reason on our side. Your Google sign-in still works, so you do not need to click Reconnect. The team is alerted, and the next sync picks the changes up.

A Microsoft Ads warning names another sign-in option

The Ad Recap Accounts screen shows a warning when a Microsoft Ads account was registered with a different sign-in. For example, This Microsoft Ads account is registered with Google sign-in. Reconnect it using the Google SSO option. Click the Microsoft Ads tile, or Use another login in the Microsoft Ads picker. When Ad Recap asks How do you sign in to Microsoft Ads?, pick the option the warning names.

  • The Google SSO option is With a Google account.
  • A personal or a work or school Microsoft account is With a Microsoft account.

A Microsoft Ads login needs to sign in again

If a warning on the Ad Recap Accounts screen says a Microsoft Ads login needs to sign in again, that Microsoft sign-in has lapsed and its accounts are missing from the account picker. Click the Microsoft Ads tile or Use another login, and sign in again with the same login and the same option, With a Microsoft account or With a Google account, as before.

Does Ad Recap work with Meta Ads?

Meta Ads is not open to every workspace. Where it is enabled, the Meta Ads tile on the Accounts screen says Sign in with Meta, and you add Meta ad accounts the same way as Google Ads. Where it is not, the tile is locked and says Not enabled for this account.

Never got the recap emails? The email did not arrive

Ad Recap sends recap emails at 8:00 AM in the timezone set in the Timezone menu on Ad Recap Settings, which starts as UTC. Daily goes out every day, Weekly on Mondays and Monthly on the 1st, by the date in that timezone. If you expected it at 8:00 AM your time, check the Timezone menu.

Emails go out only when at least one account shows Connected on the Accounts screen. Each email goes to the workspace's owners and admins and to the Recipients list in Ad Recap Settings. The sender name is AdRecap.

If you are a member but not an owner or admin, the scheduled email does not come to you, even though Settings shows your address marked you. Ask an owner or admin to add your address under Recipients.

The written summary is missing

If AI is not available, the Written recap card on the Ad Recap Dashboard shows counts instead, and the recap email goes out without its AI Summary. If the whole card is gone, turn Written summary at the top back on in Settings.
