Use the budget from your Google Ads or Microsoft Ads insertion order

How-to guidesLast verified:

A tracker can take its monthly budget from the insertion order (I/O) on its ad account instead of a number you type. It reads the amount and never changes anything in Google Ads or Microsoft Ads.

Turn it on

  • When you create a tracker, tick Use the account budget from Google Ads or Microsoft Ads. The number you enter stays until the first pull.
  • For an existing tracker, open Budget Tracker and click Use budget from Google Ads or Microsoft Ads in the tracker's row.

To go back, click Switch to manual in the same row. The label on the row then reads Manual.

When it works

The tracker has to cover every campaign on each ad account it uses. If another tracker holds some of the same account's campaigns, the pull pauses and the label says Platform budget paused. The last amounts stay as they were until you fix the split. A tracker with no mapped campaigns cannot use an account budget either.

How the amounts are worked out

It adds up the approved insertion orders that overlap each month and splits each order across months by the days that fall in each one. Pending and cancelled orders are ignored. A month keeps its current amount when:

  • there is no order for that month
  • the order is still pending
  • the order is unlimited or has no end date
  • the order's currency does not match the tracker

Quarter totals are rebuilt from the three months.

Pull the budgets

Click Pull account budgets at the top of Budget Tracker to read them now. It also pulls after your account syncs. A Budget Pacer trial that has ended cannot pull account budgets.

What does Platform budget paused mean? Read the label on each row

  • From Google Ads I/O, From Microsoft Ads I/O, or both together, means the amounts came from the platform. Hover over the label for the account, purchase order, dates and the last pull time.
  • Will use Google Ads I/O after the next sync means nothing has been pulled yet.
  • Override means you edited a month by hand.
  • Platform budget paused means the tracker no longer covers whole ad accounts.
  • No billing access for Google Ads means the ad account would not let Budget Pacer read the insertion order. Ask whoever manages billing on that account, then pull again.
  • No Google Ads I/O means no matching order was found.
  • A From label can be out of date when the last pull was more than about a day and a half ago or failed.

Override a month, then go back

Cells on a platform-sourced tracker are locked. Click Override on the row to edit them, then save as usual. Click Use platform value to drop your changes and take the platform amounts again.

See the history of a budget

Click History on a row to see every change to that tracker's budget, or Change history at the top of Budget Tracker for the whole account. Each line shows who or what made the change, such as Edited in Budget Pacer, Override, Returned to the platform value, or Updated from the ad platform I/O, with the old and new value. History starts from when this was released, so earlier edits are not listed.

The email for a budget alert or the daily digest also names the source when a tracker uses an account budget.
