Download picked ads as a bulk-upload spreadsheet
The Selected ads panel on an AdScanner job saves your picked search ads as the PPC Ad Editor bulk upload spreadsheet. It is an .xlsx file, the Excel spreadsheet format. This is how you export competitor ads from AdScanner to a file.
- Open the job in Grid view.
- Pick the ads you want. Click a card, or its Add to Studio button.
- In Selected ads, click Download N as .xlsx. N is the number of picked search ads.
- If some picked ads have no words yet, the panel shows Reading N ads… while AdScanner reads the words from each ad's image. Then the button reads Building the sheet….
- Your browser saves PPC Ads Editor.xlsx. The panel says Downloaded PPC Ads Editor.xlsx. Import it from PPC Ad Editor.
What is in the spreadsheet
The file has the sheets Instructions, Responsive Search Ads, Keywords, Sitelinks, Callouts, Snippets and Products. Each picked ad is one row on Responsive Search Ads. The columns are Campaign, Ad Group, Final URL, URL Path 1, URL Path 2, Headline 1 to Headline 15, Description 1 to Description 4, and Last Shown, the date Google last showed the ad. Campaign and Ad Group carry the advertiser's name. The other sheets hold rows only when a picked ad came with that detail, such as sitelinks.
Which ads go in the bulk-upload spreadsheet
Only search ads go in. The bulk-upload template has no image sheet, so display ads and video ads stay out. The AdScanner panel says so before you click, for example 1 display ad can't go in the spreadsheet, followed by the reason (the bulk-upload template has no image sheet) and Send to Studio to keep it. A search ad whose words could not be read is left out too, and a note under the panel says how many.
What to do with the downloaded xlsx file
After downloading, import the file into PPC Ad Editor. In the editor, start an import from a new preview and choose the file. The import step accepts .xlsx files. AdScanner does not upload anything to your Google Ads account.
You can download without a workspace
The AdScanner spreadsheet download works even when no PPC Ad Editor workspace is open. Only Send to Studio needs a workspace. You can download the same picked ads again. You get the same sheet each time.
If the download does not work
- None of the picked ads could go in the spreadsheet, so nothing was downloaded. The template only takes search ads with copy. Pick at least one search ad.
- Server-side copy recovery is off while the subscription is past due. AdScanner cannot read new words while your subscription is past due.
- Too many ads at once, followed by a note to select fewer and try again. Pick fewer ads that still need their words read, then download again.
- Sign in again, followed by a note that your session expired before the sheet was built. Sign in to PPC Ad Editor again, then download again.
- That job does not exist in this workspace. The job belongs to another workspace, or it was removed. Switch to the workspace that ran the scan.
- The spreadsheet could not be built, followed by a reason. Try again. If it keeps happening, ask Albert to open a support ticket.
The download button is greyed out
The button reads Download as .xlsx, without a number, and stays off until you pick at least one search ad. Display and video ads do not count, because they cannot go in the sheet.
Can I download every ad in a job at once?
An AdScanner job downloads the ads you pick. Pick every search ad you want in Grid view, then click Download N as .xlsx. The one-click Download .xlsx for a whole job is on AdMinerX jobs only.
