My Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn ad text is cut off in the preview. Is it lost? No. Your full text is saved. The preview shortens long text the way the feed does on a phone or a desktop screen, so you and your client see what a person sees before they tap to read more. Click the field in the editor to see and edit every word. Your client sees the same shortened preview on a share link.

## Where the preview shortens Meta text

In a Meta single image or video ad, use Facebook or Instagram above the preview, and the desktop and phone icons, to switch the view.

- Facebook on a phone: the primary text shows up to three lines. When it is longer than 110 characters, See more appears under it. The headline shows up to 48 characters and the description up to 30, then "…".
- Instagram: the caption shows up to three lines, with more under it when the primary text is longer than 110 characters. The headline shows up to 48 characters, then "…".
- Facebook on desktop: the primary text shows up to 125 characters, the headline up to 40 and the description up to 25, then "…".
- Carousel cards on Facebook and Instagram: each card's headline shows up to 48 characters, and on Facebook each card's description up to 30.
- Story or reel: the primary text shows up to 180 characters, then "…".

## Where the preview shortens LinkedIn text

In a LinkedIn single image or carousel ad, the introductory text shows up to 150 characters, then ...more, on both the phone and desktop views.

## Do Japanese, Chinese or Korean characters cut off sooner?

Yes. Wide characters, such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean, take the space of two, so the preview cuts them off after about half as many characters.

## Is this the same as the character limit?

No. The preview cut-off only shows how much of the text people see before they tap. The character limit is how long a field can be, and the counter under each field shows it. A primary text can be well inside its limit and still end in See more. See Character limits the editor enforces.

## Should I shorten the text?

That is your call. People read the first line or two before they tap, so put the offer and the most important words first. Then check the preview on the phone view, where the text is shortest.
