# Connect the PPC Ad Editor MCP server

PPC Ad Editor has an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets an AI assistant such as Claude, Cursor or Windsurf build ad previews for you. The assistant writes the ad copy, and PPC Ad Editor checks it against the format's character limits and lays it out like the real ad. You need no PPC Ad Editor account to see a mockup. With an API key, the assistant can also save the preview to your workspace and hand you a share link.

## What is the server URL?

There are two, and they do different jobs.

- https://studio.ppcadeditor.com/api/mcp/preview is the one to paste in the Claude chat apps. It shows an ad mockup and looks up ad format specs, and it treats everyone as a guest, even if you add an API key.
- https://studio.ppcadeditor.com/api/mcp is the full server. Without an API key it does the same two things. With an API key it adds a third tool that creates and shares previews in your workspace.

The pcade-mcp connector, which you run with npx in tools such as Cursor, connects to https://studio.ppcadeditor.com/api/mcp for you.

## How do I connect it?

In Claude on the web or the desktop app:

1. Go to ppcadeditor.com/mcp/claude/ and click Connect to Claude. It opens the PPC Ad Editor listing in Claude's connector directory.
2. Add the connector from the listing. There is no PPC Ad Editor sign-in step.
3. In a chat, check that PPC Ad Editor is switched on in the tools menu, then ask for an ad, for example a Google Search ad for your bakery's website.

To add it by URL instead, open Settings, then Connectors in Claude, choose Add custom connector, name it PPC Ad Editor and paste https://studio.ppcadeditor.com/api/mcp/preview.

In Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code or Claude Desktop, add pcade-mcp to the assistant's MCP settings. The setup for each one is on ppcadeditor.com/mcp/. For most of them the command is npx -y pcade-mcp. Fully quit and reopen the assistant afterwards, because connectors only load when it starts. You need Node.js 18.13 or later for npx to work.

## Which AI assistants does it work with?

Setup steps on ppcadeditor.com/mcp/ cover Claude (web and desktop), Claude Code, Cursor and Windsurf. Other assistants that support MCP can use the same pcade-mcp connector. In Claude, and in ChatGPT, the mockup shows inside the chat itself. In other assistants, the assistant gets a short description of the mockup and the save link to pass on to you.

## What tools does the MCP server have?

- **preview_ad** shows a realistic mockup of one ad in one format, with a save link. No account needed.
- **get_ad_formats** returns the specs for each ad format: how many headlines and descriptions it takes, the character limits, and the media it supports. No account needed.
- **create_and_share** creates previews in your PPC Ad Editor workspace and returns a share link and a link to open them in your dashboard. It needs an API key, and it is only on https://studio.ppcadeditor.com/api/mcp.

The assistant can build Google Search, Google Display, Performance Max and Demand Gen, YouTube, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) single image, carousel and story ads, and LinkedIn single image and carousel ads. It cannot build ChatGPT, X, Reddit, Microsoft Ads search or Programmatic ads. Build those in the editor. See [Ad formats in the editor](https://www.ppcadeditor.com/knowledge-base/studio/ad-formats/).

## What works without an account, and what needs one?

Without an account or API key, the assistant can show a mockup and look up format specs. Each mockup comes with a save link. Open it within 7 days and save the ad to a free PPC Ad Editor account to edit it, share it with a client, or collect comments. After 7 days an unsaved mockup is deleted.

If the assistant tries to create a share link without a key, it is told that this needs a PPC Ad Editor API key and to show the ad as a mockup instead.

With an API key, the assistant can also create the preview in your workspace and give you its share link straight away.

## Which plan do I need, and are there limits?

Mockups and format specs are free and need no account. Saving a mockup works on a free account, and your plan's usual limits apply when you save.

API keys are Enterprise only. On other plans, the API Keys pane in Settings says API access requires Enterprise. See [Do you have an Enterprise plan?](https://www.ppcadeditor.com/knowledge-base/suite/enterprise-plan/)

Chat mockups have a daily limit. When you reach it, the assistant says Daily preview limit reached. With an API key, creating previews is limited to 10 a minute and 500 a day for each workspace.

## Does the MCP server change my ad accounts?

No. It builds previews only. It does not publish ads to Google Ads, Meta or LinkedIn, and it does not change anything in your ad accounts. It only gets what the assistant sends for the ad, such as the copy, the web address and image links. See [Your ad content](https://www.ppcadeditor.com/knowledge-base/suite/your-ad-content/).
