A Meta ad in the editor has a profile image, a profile name, primary text, headlines, descriptions, a website URL, a call to action, and images or a YouTube video. The live preview shows it on Facebook and Instagram as you type.

Meta single image or video, carousel, and story or reel are all open on the current Free plan. On an earlier Free plan, only Meta single image or video is open.

## Logo missing on a Meta ad: what does No profile image selected mean

It means the ad has no profile image, its logo, yet. It is not an error, and the ad still previews. Until you pick one, the preview shows a coloured circle with the first letter of the profile name.

To add one, click the No profile image selected box, or click Add Logo under Profile Image. A picker opens. Choose a logo from your asset library, or upload a new one, then click Done. The logo shows as the round page picture on the ad.

- To swap it, click Change.
- To remove it, hover over the round picture, click the remove icon on it, titled Remove logo, then click Remove. A Logo deleted message offers Undo for a few seconds.

## Set the profile name

The name beside the profile picture comes from the Business Name section, below Call to Action.

- With no name yet, it says No Business Name Added. Click Add Existing to pick one from your library, or Create New to type one.
- With names added, click one to use it. The one in use is tagged PRIMARY. Manage opens the list.
- Pick No Business Name to hide yours. The preview then shows Your Brand on Facebook and yourbrand on Instagram.

If you never picked a name, the preview uses the domain of your website URL.

## Copy the profile image and name to my other ads

What does Apply to next to the logo do on a Facebook or Instagram ad? It copies this ad's profile image and name to your other ads.

Changing the profile image or name edits this ad only. To use the same ones on more ads, click Apply to beside the logo button. The menu is headed Profile image and profile name and offers three choices:

- This ad only, which is ticked and changes nothing else.
- All ads in the ad set name, which copies both to every other ad in the same ad set. If the ad set has no name it reads All ads in this ad set.
- All campaigns in this preview, which copies both to every other ad in the preview.

A message confirms, such as Profile applied to 4 ads. If there are no other ads it says There are no other ads to update. On the Free plan, ads whose profile you cannot change are left alone, and the message says how many locked on the Free plan were skipped. Apply to is greyed out until the ad is saved, and it does not show on a share link or when you only have view access. It works on single image or video, carousel, and story or reel ads.

## Write the primary text, headlines, and descriptions

On a single image or video ad you can add up to 5 of each:

- Primary text, up to 125 characters each.
- Headline, up to 40 characters each.
- Description, up to 25 characters each.

The section heading counts them, such as Headline (2 of 5 used). Click Add for another. These fields stop at the limit, including when you paste, so extra characters are not kept. At five, Add is greyed out and shows Limit reached. Delete one to add a different one. Click the shuffle icon above the preview, Shuffle ad variations, to see other combinations.

A story or reel ad has primary text only, up to 5 at 125 characters. It has no headline or description.

## Website URL and call to action

Type the page the ad opens in Website URL. A link that is not a full web address shows Enter a valid URL (e.g. https://www.example.com).

Pick the button text under Call to Action: Shop Now, Learn More, Sign Up, Download, Contact Us, Book Now, Get Offer, Apply Now, Subscribe, or Watch More. New ads start on Shop Now.

## Add images

Click Image, then Add Image. A picker opens on your asset library, where you can also upload. Pick your images, then click Done. Images can be JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP, up to 20 MB each. A single image or video ad, and a story or reel, take up to 5 images.

The feed preview shows each image square or wide, by its shape, and fills the frame. A tall 4:5 image shows cropped to a square. A story or reel fills a 9:16 frame. Carousel cards are square.

A video file you upload follows its own shape in the Facebook and Instagram feed previews. A wide video shows 16:9, a square one 1:1, and a tall one, such as 9:16 or 4:5, shows in a 4:5 frame, cropped top and bottom the way Meta crops it in a feed. A story or reel shows the video full screen.

## Add a video

As of 21 October 2026, a Meta single image or video ad, and a story or reel, play a video file you upload or a video from a link.

- To upload, click Video, then Upload video, and pick an MP4, MOV, or WebM file up to 100 MB. You can also drag the file onto the No videos added yet box. A bar shows the upload.
- To use a link, click Video, then Add Video. Paste a YouTube, Google Drive, or Dropbox link in YouTube, Google Drive, or Dropbox link, and click Add video. YouTube links from youtube.com, youtu.be, and YouTube Shorts work.

A YouTube link stays a link, so use a Public or Unlisted video your client can play on the share link. A Google Drive or Dropbox file is copied into your account, and it must be shared as Anyone with the link. If the link is from another site, it says Paste a YouTube link, a public Google Drive link, or a public Dropbox link. Uploaded videos count toward your account's video storage, which is capped per account by plan. A YouTube link does not count. See Upload a video to a Meta or LinkedIn ad. Under Video Library, Used in this preview and From your account list videos you added before. Click Add on one to reuse it.

Change adds another video. It does not replace the first one. Use Remove video to take one off.

A carousel card takes a YouTube link only, not a file or a Google Drive or Dropbox link.

## Build a carousel

A carousel has shared primary text above the cards, up to 5 at 125 characters, and one Call to Action for all cards. Each card has its own image or video, Headline (40 characters), Description (25 characters), and Destination URL.

- Carousel Cards shows how many you have, up to 10. Click Add to add a card. New carousels start with one.
- Click a Card tab to edit it. On a card, Add Image or Add Video URL sets its media. Picking one replaces the other. A card's video is a YouTube link.
- To delete a card, click its trash icon, then Remove card. A carousel always keeps at least one card. Cards cannot be reordered.

## See it on Facebook and Instagram

Above the live preview, click Facebook or Instagram, then the desktop or mobile icon. Single image or video and carousel ads open on Facebook, mobile. The views are the Facebook mobile feed, the Facebook desktop feed, and the Instagram feed.

A story or reel ad has FB Story and IG Reel, on a phone only. The preview shows the profile name and Sponsored at the top and the call to action at the bottom, the way the story does. It does not draw safe-zone guides.

## Why my primary text ends in See more

In the feed previews, primary text shows three lines. Past 110 characters it adds See more on Facebook and more on Instagram, the way the real feed cuts long text. Your full text is still saved. Put the important words first.

## Save a picture of the ad

Copy as image copies the view on screen, ready to paste into a slide. Download PNG saves it as a picture. These are pictures. Meta ads do not export as ads you import on Meta.
